News Publication Logo
Iconic Logo Design
For The Foster Report
The Foster Report provides independent and in-depth reporting on the energy industry. They wanted a new logo that would be long lasting and capable of building a recognizable brand. That is what designers refer to as an iconic logo.
mhcDesign came up with a solution that is iconic and fitting for a news publication. Here's why we chose these typefaces for their logo.
We contrasted two typefaces. First we chose the display typeface, Revue, endowing the word “Foster” with bold flair. Then we added the typeface Town 10, crisp and lean, for words “The” and “Report”.
The bold Revue has a high center of gravity with more energy. In contrast Town 10 has a low center of gravity and is very stable. The Town 10 characters, appearing on either side of Revue and smaller, contain its energy but allow Revue to steal the show.
In short, the logo has flair and restraint. It is attention grabbing but steady. Together the typefaces create interest and balance. In the end, because overall letter spacing is controlled for steady punctuation, logic prevails over emotion. Fitting for a news report.
